Passion for Human Growth Through Education, Engagement and Empowerment
With nearly two decades of experience as a psychotherapist for individuals, couples, families, and groups, my journey has been defined by a deep passion for human growth. I find immense joy in educating and helping people unravel the obstacles that hinder their path to self-realization. I firmly believe that mental health is the cornerstone of one's well-being, as it profoundly influences our relationships, professional growth, achievements, and overall life fulfillment. Nothing can derail our life's trajectory quite like poor mental health, as it permeates every facet of our existence. My obsession with learning, education, and the art of packaging mental health information in an impactful, relatable, and engaging manner is what drives me to empower individuals and communities on their quest for a healthier, happier life.
With an unceasing curiosity about human relationships and the intricacies of the human mind, I embarked on a career that spans nearly two decades, offering psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families in the Des Moines metro area. My journey has been marked by a unique blend of educational depth and practical experience that distinctly qualifies me as a dynamic public speaker on mental health topics and a skilled seminar and workshop facilitator.
My educational foundation is rooted in a degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Iowa, which has equipped me with a profound understanding of the complexities of the human psyche. Over the years, I've expanded my therapeutic repertoire, drawing from a psychodynamic foundation while integrating various therapeutic modalities, including the Gottman method for couples, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS), existential therapy, narrative therapy, and Bowen Family Therapy. This diverse theoretical orientation empowers me to provide tailored and effective treatments.
In my free time, I indulge in my interests in art history, philosophy, and design, as well as nurturing my love for plants, traveling, and collecting vintage home goods. These diverse pursuits reflect a well-rounded perspective on life and well-being.
My most profound joy, however, emanates from cherished relationships, including my two daughters, my loyal dachshund Weebles, and a close-knit network of friends and family. This rich life experience, coupled with my diverse theoretical orientation and extensive practical expertise, uniquely positions me to inspire and educate diverse audiences on the critical subject of mental health, fostering growth, understanding, and personal transformation.
